There is plenty of researches and documentation related to the impact of overwork and inadequate rest as it relates to our immune system.  It is during sleep that our body repairs and rejuvenates itself. Lack of sleep and rest lead to excess stress which intern leads to high levels of inflammation, decreased immunity, and predisposes you to the common cold, confusion, irritability, depression, and anxiety. Inadequate rest can also lead to heart diseases, pulmonary issues like asthma, and shortness of breath.  Insufficient sleep and rest can even cause constipation and other gastric issues. Just like you plan and schedule your workout and exercise, your dinner, lunch, and breakfast. It’s important to plan and schedule your rest & sleep time every day.

No wonder your grandmother’s prescription for the cold or flu was some good chicken soup and lots of rest.
